As an African American female I would be remiss if I didn't express the need for positive mentors and role models for our young girls and ladies. Fortunately, I was raised by my grandmother and she instilled in me morals and values and for that I am eternally grateful. When I was growing up it was okay to have R&B singers and even some rap artists as role models, because they delivered positive messages. Times have changed and now the messages are geared towards sex, drugs and lies. I find it very disheartening when I see on the news that Kindergartners are caught in sexual acts. Is it beyond hope? No we can overcome these obstacles and the snares laid out for us by by those who underestimate our ability based on the color of our skin. We must remain positive and surround ourselves by those who believe in us. We must have a strong faith based relationship with God. We must learn what to retain in the mind and what debris to let totally pass through. We must never give up or give in to the lies, perception or negative attitudes of others. Persevere, persevere, persevere!!!! As sure as there are people out there that will say you can't or won't, there are many that will be there to support you financially, mentally and corporately. Remember failure only comes when you give up. Let me be your biggest fan by saying no matter what background you came from, no matter what race you are "You can do whatever you put your mind to. It may not be easy, but you can do it!"
