CHURCH COMPASSION OR COMPETITION?

Definition of Compassion - Human Kindness and Good Deeds. A feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. The definition of compassion must include human kindness as well as good deeds. Someone cannot have human kindness in them unless they have the love for others. God is the best example of compassion. He loves all of mankind whether or not any one individual loves Him or not. Because of this love, God desires to bless us.

Definition of Competition.

The act of seeking, or endeavoring to gain, what another is endeavoring to gain at the same time; common strife for the same objects; strife for superiority; emulous contest; rivalry, as for approbation, for a prize, or as where two or more persons are engaged in the same business and each seeking patronage; - followed by for before the object sought, and with before the person or thing competed with.

We can see below the curses affiliated with competition in the book of Genesis alone.

The Serpent and Eve
Eve and Adam
Cain and Abel
The Tower of Babel
Noah's Ark
Lot and Sodom / Gomorrah
Abraham and Pharaoh
Joseph and his brothers

Unfortunately, the competitive nature has taken over in many churches and individuals in their Christian supposedly (CHRIST-LIKE) walk.  If we are to be the definition of compassion then why are so many competing with the others for more church members, a bigger church, a bigger/better mass choir, a better worship/praise team , an awesome television ministry? What we should be competing for is winning souls for Christ and the edification of HIS kingdom not one’s carnal church.  Yes, I said carnal church because when the focus is geared towards MAN and not GOD it becomes carnal. The last time I checked there were billions of sinners still lost and looking for the answer.  So, if there are billions of souls that need to be saved there is no room for competition of buildings but lots of room for getting out and winning souls along with compassion.  Today is the time for a change.  What defines you, Competition or Compassion?

Blessings, Lady Monica

Philippians 2:3-4  (NIV)  " Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others
